Darcy Creech: Leadership is proven, not promised
This op-ed was originally published on 5bgazette.com.
Blaine County residents deserve a County Clerk who understands that government should serve the people—with efficiency, accountability, transparency, and responsiveness.
For several decades, I have built and managed businesses, solved problems, balanced budgets, led employees, and served discerning customers. I sold my engagement ring to launch Darcy Creech Hats, which I subsequently sold to Hat Brands. I later founded Peter Beaton, Inc., a Nantucket lifestyle brand I successfully operated for 25 years. As an entrepreneur, I learned an essential lesson: Results matter. Accountability matters. And when something isn’t working, you fix it—or risk going out of business.
I am running for Blaine County Clerk because I believe those principles belong in county government.
Election integrity and voter confidence
As Chief Elections Officer, I will prioritize accurate voter registration records, secure election procedures, transparent tabulation, and consistent application of Idaho election law.
I will proactively offer voters the option of traditional, hand-marked oval ballots rather than requiring them to request one. Voters deserve to understand how their ballots are cast, processed, and counted. Confidence in elections begins with clear procedures, informed voters, and meaningful transparency.
Accessible public records and prompt service
Property records are public documents, not proprietary assets. Realtors, title companies, attorneys, lenders, and property owners depend on timely, affordable access to accurate information.
I will review the county’s current recording software, subscription fees, and document watermarking practices, with the goal of eliminating unnecessary barriers to public access.
I will also work toward prompt recording of legal documents and establish measurable service standards. Unnecessary delays can jeopardize real estate closings and burden the people who depend on these records.
Fiscal responsibility and accountability
The County Clerk serves as the county’s chief budget and financial officer. That responsibility demands disciplined oversight and careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
Having managed business finances for decades, I understand the importance of examining expenses, evaluating contracts, eliminating waste, and demanding value for every dollar spent.
A stronger, more responsive clerk’s office
A well-managed organization should never depend so heavily on one employee that operations suffer when that person is absent.
I will prioritize employee cross-training, clear operating procedures, and organizational resilience. I want a workplace where employees are supported, responsibilities are understood, and the public receives dependable service regardless of staffing circumstances.
Equally important, I will listen to the people affected by decisions. Significant changes to county systems and procedures should involve meaningful consultation with employees, businesses, and residents who rely on those services.
Service above politics
Throughout my business career, I served a discerning clientele that crossed political lines, including Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Martha Stewart. I understood that every customer deserved professionalism, fairness, and respect.
My commitment to service extends beyond business. I founded Nantucket Wheelers, serving people with disabilities, and Hydrex Philanthropic, supporting clean water and sanitation initiatives in Africa. Today, I remain actively involved in Blaine County civic and community organizations.
The County Clerk serves every resident—Republican, Democrat, independent, or unaffiliated. I will approach that responsibility without favoritism or political discrimination.
Blaine County voters have a choice between candidates bringing different professional backgrounds and experiences to this office. Mine is grounded in decades of entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, organizational leadership, and community service.
My commitments are straightforward: secure elections, accessible records, responsible spending, efficient operations, and respectful service to every resident.
Leadership is proven, not promised. My record is one of building organizations, managing responsibilities, and serving others. Those are the experiences I will bring to the Blaine County Clerk’s Office.
