Letter to the Editor: Republican Party is thriving in Blaine County
Sun Valley resident Sarah Lurie submitted the following letter to the Idaho Mountain Express. The letter was published on July 24, 2024.
Republican Party is thriving in Blaine County
Segmenting the current voter list shows there are more Republican voters in Blaine County than there are Democrats.
Indeed, the Republican Party is thriving in Blaine County. Several recent events are evidence of this: The Sun Valley Policy Forum was packed; a strong Republican candidate is running for sheriff; over a dozen energized Republican Precinct committeemen were recently elected; the Blaine County Republican Women’s group has doubled its membership; and a reinvigorated Blaine County Republican Central Committee is in the spotlight.
As the Blaine County Republican Party and organizations like the Sun Valley Policy Forum continue to grow, more conservative organizations will begin popping up. For example, there are plans for a conservative local news outlet to start up in the valley.
The increasing Republican and conservative involvement in Blaine County is challenging our county’s narrative of being solidly blue. As more residents are engaging with these initiatives and organizations, it’s clear the political landscape in Blaine County is more diverse than we thought, with the Republican Party playing an increasingly visible role in local civic life.
