Resolution Calling for Fiscal Discipline and an End to Constant Levy and Tax Increases in Blaine County

WHEREAS, Blaine County residents already face some of the highest housing and cost-of-living pressures in the state of Idaho; and

WHEREAS, property taxes continue to rise as new levies and taxing districts are proposed and placed before voters with increasing frequency; and

WHEREAS, each additional levy—no matter how small it may appear individually—adds to the cumulative tax burden carried by homeowners, renters, small businesses, working families, and retirees living on fixed incomes; and

WHEREAS, repeated reliance on new levies signals a growing pattern in which local governments and taxing districts increasingly look to taxpayers as the first solution to budget challenges rather than carefully evaluating existing spending priorities; and

WHEREAS, Blaine County must remain a place where the people who work in our communities—including teachers, tradespeople, service workers, young families, and seniors—can afford to continue living here; and

WHEREAS, protecting affordability and responsible fiscal stewardship requires local governments to prioritize efficient use of existing resources before seeking additional taxes from residents; and

WHEREAS, voters should not be pressured to approve new permanent taxing authorities without clear evidence that existing funding options and efficiencies have been fully explored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Blaine County Republican Central Committee urges voters to carefully consider the long-term impact of creating new taxing districts and approving additional property tax levies; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee encourages local governments and public agencies to demonstrate greater fiscal discipline and to pursue sustainable funding solutions that do not continually rely on higher taxes; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Blaine County Republican Central Committee urges voters to vote NO on the proposed Library District Levy and the Ambulance Levy appearing on the May 19 ballot; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Committee stands for responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources and for policies that keep Blaine County affordable for the families, workers, and retirees who call this valley home.

Approved by the Blaine County Republican Central Committee on April 8, 2026.
