Enough Is Enough: It’s Time for Accountability, Not Higher Taxes

Your Vote on November 4, 2025 Could Decide Blaine County’s Future

We live here because we love the outdoors, the small-town feel, and the sense of community that makes Blaine County special.

But local governments keep asking for more—more levies, more taxes, more spending—with not enough accountability for how they use what they already have.

Families, retirees, and small businesses are stretched thin. It’s time to say enough.

Tax measures are often placed on odd-year ballots when voter turnout is low—by design. That’s why it’s critical for voters to show up this November and make their voices heard. The future of our county is being shaped right now, and your vote can make the difference.

Vote NO on the Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD) Levy

We all value our trails, mountains, and open spaces. The BCRD has long been part of what makes this valley special. But it has grown into an expensive government operation that now asks taxpayers to shoulder an additional $3 million every year—permanently.

  • The recreation district’s scope has grown well beyond its original intent.
  • Residents in Carey and other outlying areas would pay even more taxes for services they rarely use.
  • Private sports clubs and community groups will hesitate to invest in facilities, fearing competition with a taxpayer-funded district.
  • Property levies hit homeowners hardest, and housing affordability keeps getting worse.

Blaine County has a proud history of private fundraising for shared resources — including Mountain Humane, Warm Springs Preserve, Galena Lodge, and Campion Ice House — proof we can fund community benefits and recreation without a permanent tax.

Vote NO on the Blaine County School District (BCSD) Levy

We all want strong schools, but that requires accountability, not endless funding increases.

  • Enrollment has dropped by more than 300 students since 2020.
  • Only half of students meet reading standards.
  • Just one-third are proficient in math.
  • Graduation rates remain below the state target, while chronic absenteeism is rising.
  • Spending continues to increase even as performance lags.

Before asking taxpayers for even more money, the district should demonstrate clear improvement in student outcomes and responsible management of the resources it already receives.

Vote NO on Local Option Taxes (LOTs)

LOTs were sold as a way to make tourists “pay their share.” In reality, they raise prices and create an additional burden for everyone—residents, visitors, and local businesses.

  • Sun Valley, Hailey, and Bellevue are all proposing new or higher LOTs this November.
  • Locals pay LOTs every time they eat out, buy a drink, or rent equipment.
  • LOTs make our area less welcoming to visitors, which hurts small businesses.
  • They’ve become a crutch for city governments that refuse to control spending.

It’s time for cities to live within their means, just like families do.

On November 4, vote for accountability and vote NO on higher taxes.Vote NO on the Blaine County Recreation District Levy, Blaine County School District Levy, and all Local Option Taxes.
