Where do your elected officials and candidates stand on Proposition 1?

The Blaine County Republican Central Committee (BCRCC) and the Idaho Republican Party oppose Proposition 1, the “Top-Four Primary and Ranked Choice Voting” initiative that will be on the ballot in November. Blaine County voters are urged to VOTE NO on Prop 1. Following is an overview of where your elected officials and candidates stand on this risky scheme to radically transform Idaho’s elections.

National and State Leaders

  • Former President Donald J. Trump: Opposed to Ranked Choice Voting
  • Governor Brad Little: Opposed to Prop 1, and he signed a bill to prohibit Ranked Choice Voting in 2023.*
  • U.S. Senator Jim Risch: Opposed to Prop 1
  • U.S. Senator Mike Crapo: Opposed to Prop 1
  • U.S. Representative Russ Fulcher: Opposed to Prop 1
  • U.S. Representative Mike Simpson: Opposed to Prop 1
  • Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador: Opposed to Prop 1

Idaho State Senate

  • Kala Tate (Independent): Opposed to Prop 1
  • Laurie Lickley (Republican): Position Unknown
  • Ron Taylor (Democrat): Supports Prop 1, and he voted against prohibiting Ranked Choice Voting during the 2023 legislature.*

Idaho House of Representatives 26A

  • Mike Pohanka (Republican): Opposed to Prop 1
  • Ned Burns (Democrat): His position on Prop 1 is unknown, but he voted against prohibiting Ranked Choice Voting during the 2023 legislature.*

Idaho House of Representatives 26B

  • Jack Nelsen (Republican): His position on Prop 1 is unknown, but he voted against prohibiting Ranked Choice Voting during the 2023 legislature.*
  • Chris Hansen (Democrat): Supports Prop 1

*In 2023, the Idaho legislature overwhelmingly adopted HB 179 prohibiting the use of Ranked Choice Voting in Idaho, and the bill was signed into law by Governor Brad Little. If Prop 1 passes, it would reverse that ban.
